Grandma Emerdine's Pumpkin Pie

Your Grandma will be proud of these pies. This is my Grandma Emerdine's recipe that my mom has still to this day on a little tin in her cabinet. Which is silly but I love it at the same time. In the below pictures you will see my mom's hands holding the tin along with some pie pictures. I love holiday pies my Grandma used to make one in like every flavor. You would walk in the entry way and there would be a line of pies greeting you including apple, banana cream, cherry and of course pumpkin. She made them all herself and we try to keep some of that traditional alive. Maybe not like all of those types but some of them. Serve this with ice cream or cool whip. We love it cold in my family.

Disclaimer: I totally wrote about this topic in 2016 but I love that I did.... Read the older post on this topic HERE!

Follow these old school tin directions!

What you need.

Hello beautiful pies.
I hope you keep up with some of your family traditions each year. I like to have some things traditional but change up some other things to keep things fun. These pies will always have a special part in my heart though.

Until next time~

Thanksgiving 2018

What a whirlwind of a week. I had off most of the week and between cleaning and family time the week flew by.

Thanksgiving: Made the pumpkin pies, the meat/cheese and veggie trays. Saw Ryan and my family all in one day which is always a ton of love and fun. Ryan's brother Marc came home for a visit so we managed to spend a lot of time visiting with him even getting ramen later in the week. My mom made her best batch of cheesey hashbrowns ever per my sister-in-law. 😁

Black Friday: We went shopping for 6am with my great aunt shirley and it was so fun. I know I keep saying fun but we laughed and have the best time shopping together. We went to lunch with my moms family at krolls too. I love seeing everyone. I even got that cute jacket for Luna at menards for $3 a steal! That night we had friends over and played the game of life. I forgot how silly this game is.

The rest of the week was cleaning and relaxing!
Oh and a pet update! Luna got her stitches out today and is allowed to go for walks again. She is healing up really nice. Be the little black adorable kitty loves sleeping on the dining room chairs and begging for cool whip. Stella loves to continue to sleep all the time and be grumpy.

Enjoy some of the pictures from this past week!

Yelp Event: Holiday Booze

I mean it was fabulous. How can it not be when it is called Holiday Booze. I really have a soft spot for Ridgeview Liquor and having a Yelp event hosted here was a great idea. GO HERE to read my review and see some fun pictures from the event below.

Review:
5/5
My favorite liquor store by my house mixed with Yelp how can this not be a great event!? It was super fun from the free samples, explanation of the beer/wine we were tasting and the fun booze hunt we did it was a blast. I love that not only was the owner there to answer questions you could tell him and his employees really love their beer/wine. I went away buying some goodies too for home. Scott did outstanding as always with this event!

A special Bourbon they only sell here.

Beer and wine tasting.

Aloha Chicken & Rice

Yum! I loved this recipe not only because it was easy to do it was tasty. I have had a bad cold and dealing with Luna's surgery. I am happy to report all is on the mend over here and this will make you think of take-out but be healthier. I hope that you really enjoy this we did and will be making it again.

What you need~
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/2 soy sauce
3/4 cup chicken stock
1 tsp garlic
1/2 cup onion chopped ( I used red)
1 chopped red pepper
1 can (20 ounces) pineapple chunks
1 cup white rice
1/2 pound chicken (white meat) diced
Diced green onion to garnish

Ready for the oven.

Start by heating the oven to 425 degrees F.  Take a deep 9 inch baking dish and whisk the brown sugar, soy sauce, chicken stock and garlic together. Add the rest of the items (omit the green onion) and bake for 30-45 minutes until rice is done. Top with green onion before serving and delight in the fact you make take-out at home. Plus you always have some leftovers for lunch then next day!

YUM!

Until next time~

Pet Updates!

Life is a bit crazy lately. I know that I have not posted many blog posts lately because I have a lot going on between work and our pet situations. I posted a picture about Luna last week and now that her surgery is booked for Thursday I figured it would be a good time for a pet update.

Luna update:

WARNING-- some of these pictures are  gross due to the type of injury Luna has.

Friday morning I woke up thinking one of the cats (more on that later) or Luna went pee on the floor in the bedroom. I started cleaning it up and Luna walked by me. I screamed. I did not mean to but her entire side was gross. She has a fatty tumor on her shoulder blade that she has had for years at this point and never had any issues with it. Before you ask it is not cancerous and is outside her flesh between her skin and flesh. Rather common in older dogs. It had as we like to call it sprung a leak. My vet in De Pere is the best and they were able to get us in that same morning to shave her and clean her up. She got to wear a fancy bandage vest for two days with a t-shirt. her tumor has shrunk now and she has surgery scheduled Thursday morning at 8:10am. She is doing well eating and going for walks still. Here are some pictures of her little journey this past week.

WARNING--Gross picture before being cleaned up at that vet. Waiting patiently. Most likely 5 treats in at this point.

Rocking my cute vest after shaving and cleaning.

More treats please I was so good.

Look at the fluff!

Fluffy floof

Popcorn please?

Awe.

Here I am after my t-shirt was added to my fancy bandage vest.

I sleep in my cute shirt.

Awe.

WARNING-- Letting my wound air out. Surgery soon!

Bagheera (Nickname Be)

My dear friends have had this beautiful girl for years and she needed a quieter home in the worst way since she is a shy cat. Ryan and I agreed to a trial adoption to see if she would fit in with our old lady pets. She came into our home on Thursday and is slowly integrating into the gang. Be loves to play and sleep behind all my clothes during the day. She is so cute with her little mews. Her and Luna get along just great. Her and Stella are learning boundaries. Today they had the funniest interaction. Soon I am sure they will settle into a routine.

She is such a pretty girl.

Hi! Pets?

She is still a little jumpy when she hears sounds.

Stella

This old lady is actually completely fine with Be in the house. I think because Be is so chill and cautious she does not feel threatened a whole lot. She has really only hissed a couple times at Be and it was mostly her own fault for getting to close to her. Silly old lady.

Where did Stella go have you seen her?

Sleeping peacefully.

Sleepy.
After a busy week hopefully next week goes a lot smoother for our pet/people family.

Until next time~
